Liver disease isn’t the only life-threatening complication among people living with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, according to an analysis published in the July 15 issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases. Data from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) suggest chronic hepatitis C doubles the normal risk of dying early from any cause, which led the study authors to conclude that early HCV testing and treatment, along with comprehensive primary care, is essential for all people living with HCV.
